The Penguin cooling pillow mat works as described. My first use, I put it in the fridge to test it out, too much for me! unless you are super 'hot' person, you should be fine without cooling it in the fridge.
It will not stay in place if just use it on top of pillow as picture shown (when sleep on it), I have to put it inside the pillow case.... duh! and it is very effective, I have been using it for almost three weeks, every night, my husband and i enjoy this mat, luckily, I'm petite, we can share.... no problem.
